Kasese to receive shillings 15.5 billion for infrastructural rehabilitation

Government has earmarked shillings 15.5 billion to facilitate the rehabilitation and construction works of a number of bridges that were destroyed by floods and mudslides in Kasese district.

Since May 2013, Kasese district has been witnessing floods and mudslides leading to destruction of roads and bridges.

The District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi says following a repeat of incidents, they wrote to the Ministry of Works and Transport which according to him has assured the district leadership of the disbursement of shillings 15.5 billion to facilitate the reconstruction works of about 15 bridges spread across Bukonzo County East and Busongora County South.

According to him, some of the bridges to be worked upon include Nkoko, Isebwe, Kabiri, Nsenyi, Bagonza and Mathembe located in the sub-counties of Karusandara, Kyondo, Kyarumba and the two Town Councils of Kisinga and Kyarumba respectively.

He also explains that during the same program implementation, there will be rehabilitation of Kyarumba – Kisinga road totaling to 4.5 kilometers.

The District says they are still waiting for release of shillings 1 billion road fund which he hopes every constituency will benefit from.

He is optimistic that every constituency will be allocated shillings 200 million to renovate the roads that are in a sorry state.
