As the academic term officially commenced today, several schools have registered a very low turn-out of learners.
A mini-survey by Messiah Radio indicates that many schools received a paltry number of learners despite the fact that pupils have been on holiday for over two months.
At Kamaiba Primary School, only 497 learners had turned up on day-one in sharp contrast to the over 1200 learners that made up the school enrolment as at the close of last academic year.
Mr. Benon Dan Masereka the Head teacher at Kamaiba Primary School was however still optimistic that more learners will report in the subsequent days explaining that some parents possibly failed to facilitate their children to return to school.
At St Peters Primary School, a paltry 231 learners reported today yet as at the close of last year, the institution had an enrolment of over 1000 learners.
Mr Julius Baluku Banzwekere reiterated the commitment of the teaching staff to deliver to the learners. He, however, noted that the school is still grappling with inadequate class room space.
He also appealed to parents to prioritise the education of their children if they are to groom them as responsible citizens.
