Kasese residents urged to embrace tuberculosis diagnosis

BY XAVIER LINUS KULE

The community in Kasese district has been encouraged to embrace Tuberculosis diagnosis as one way of fighting against the prevalence of the infection.

Mr. Surgeon Kisomerya, the District Focal Person on Tuberculosis and Leprosy says Kasese is among the local governments in the country that are grappling with tuberculosis.

He notes that at least 10 health facilities across the district have registered cases of tuberculosis, a reason why some partners of the district have resorted to rolling out tuberculosis screening at all health facilities where the infection has been reported.

The health facilities include Bwera Hospital, Kagando Hospital, Kasese Municipal Health Centre III, Rukooki Health Centre IV and Hima Health Centre III among others.

According to him, all the health workers at the selected facilities have been asked to help in identifying people with signs and symptoms of tuberculosis so that they are registered to simplify the sensitization and testing activity.

Mr. Stephen Bagonza, the acting Kasese District Health Officer, has since courted the residents to utilize the planned sensitization and testing activity to know their health statuses.

The Integrated Awareness Sensitization Screening and Testing campaign will be carried out during the celebrations to mark the World Tuberculosis Day slated for March 27, 2024.
