Kasese residents living in disaster prone areas asked to relocate

BY JOACKIM KULE

The Kasese District Chairperson has reiterated an earlier call on the residents who are living in disaster prone areas to relocate to safer places as heavy rains are anticipated to extend up to June.

Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi made the remarks today while speaking to our reporter at his office at Kasese District Headquarters in Rukooki, Kasese town.

The Uganda National Metrological Authority (UNMA) has previously indicated that Kasese would receive above normal rainfall until end of June.

Muhindi noted that it is unfortunate that the district has lost more than 10 people in a period of less than a month.

The district boss also implored the people of Kasese to embrace terracing as one of the measures to reduce soil erosion and also reduce the speed and volumes with which water flows from the uplands to the valleys.
