Kasese residents called to be vigilant of the anticipated heavy rains

The Ministry of Water and Environment has revealed that Kasese district would start receiving normal rains in the mid-March.

The revelation is contained in a report from the Office of the District Senior Planner who is also the Secretary for the District Disaster Management Committee.

In the report dated February 28, the Ministry highlights that Kasese, Mbarara, Kisoro, Sheema and Rwampara districts will receive rains on the mentioned period of time.

Speaking to our reporter yesterday afternoon, Mr. Joseph Singoma, the Kasese District Senior Planner said that the cited districts would start receiving enhanced rains from mid-April and their cessation us expected to be in June.

Singoma revealed that the rains might be associated with disasters in form of river flooding and mudslides, calling for the people’s vigilance about the matter.

He, however, stressed that the rains would be of importance to the people especially those involved in agricultural activities.

He appealed to the farmers to prepare their pieces of land well so that they grow crops on time.

Mr. John Balikwisa, the Chairperson LCI for Namhuga North East in Bulembia Division also appealed to the people living in disaster prone areas to start shifting to safer places.
