The retired Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Zebedee Kahangwa Masereka has appealed to the members of the general public in Kasese district to embrace the idea of supporting children born from vulnerable families to acquire formal education.

Bishop Masereka explained that helping such children to acquire reasonable levels of education enables them to live improved lives.

The retired prelate made the appeal today afternoon while speaking to our reporter shortly after a general meeting of parents, guardians, alumni and students who are some of the beneficiaries of the Kasese Community Health and Foundation (KCHEF) programme. The meeting was held at Kamaiba Youth Centre in Kasese town.

Bishop Masereka, who is the founder of Kasese Community Health and Education Foundation, revealed that he developed the idea of supporting vulnerable children with school fees after realizing that HIV/AIDS had killed many of the parents in 2002, hence making their orphans vulnerable and unable to attain formal education.

He was happy that since the inception of the programme, more than 350 beneficiaries have successfully attained formal education and are employed in both government and privately owned entities.

Earlier, Mr. Bizaleri Syaipuma, the Chairperson for the Kasese Community Health and Education Foundation Alumni Association has testified that most people who benefited from the project are currently living improved lives and contributing to the development of their respective communities.

Mr. David Mumbere Sibughenderwa, one of the beneficiary students who is pursuing Diploma in Pharmacy at Fort-Portal College of Health Sciences hailed the organization for supporting him since 2021 while in senior five at Karambi Secondary School.
