Kasese District Local Government has been ranked the 10th out of 176 districts in the effective implementation of government programs, according to the National Performance Assessment Exercise for the financial year 2023/2024.
The development was revealed last evening by Mr. Alex Masereka, the Principal District Planner while addressing the staff for the Extended Technical Planning Meeting that was held at the district multipurpose hall in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality.
Mr. Masereka indicated that the district scored 85.92% in the effective implementation of government programmes compared to the financial year 2022/2023 where the district obtained 117th position.
According to the Performance Assessment Report, Water and Sanitation Department took the lead in the whole country with 92% followed by Production Services with 93% ranking the department as the 6th in whole country.
Masereka attributed such a performance to teamwork among the management that worked hard to fill the gaps that existed in the staffing levels.
Mr. Monday Mundualamira, the District Statistician revealed that basing on their performance, the district is likely to have an advanced Indicative Planning Figures (IPF).
Mr. Eriab Begumya Ntarwete, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, encouraged the technical staff to put in more efforts so that they secure the first position in the next Assessment Exercise.
The District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, commended the Chief Administrative Officer for emphasizing self- assessment amongst the technical staff, something he believes led to an improved performance.
He, however, observed the need for the office of the Chief Administrative Officer to arrange for benchmarking sessions from the best performing districts.
The National Assessment Performance Report puts Kiruhura district in the first position, followed by Isingiro, Ibanda, Kabale, Kamwenge and Rukungiri Municipal Council.
Others are Bukedea, Rukungiri, Kumi and then Kasese in the 10th position.
