Kasese Municipal leadership applauded for properly implementing USMID program

The President of the Uganda National Urban Forum (UNUF) Mr. Derek Muhwezi has applauded the leadership of Kasese Municipality for the proper implementation, monitoring and supervision of the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) funds.

The Uganda National Urban Forum is a national dialogue for all stakeholders in the urban sector with an aim of strengthening good urban governance. The forum operates under the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

The Forum’s President, who arrived in Kasese yesterday with other members to inspect the projects, today held a meeting with the Municipal leaders and members of Kasese Municipal Development at the Central Division Council hall and told them that he was impressed by the street lights when he secretly toured the town last night.

Speaking in a jovial mood, Muhwezi pledged that because of the improved road network in Kasese town, he would support the idea of elevating Kasese Municipal Council to a City Status when consulted.

He, however, observed that the night economy was unutilized, arguing that most businesses in the centre close as early as 10pm, encouraging the political and technical wings to devise means of mobilizing the people to run their businesses for 24 hours especially  in the middle of the urban centre.

The Kasese Municipality Mayor, Chance Kahindo attributed the success of the USMID Programme to the cordial working relationship between the political leadership and technical wing.
