Kasese Municipal Council establishes LEDIC to manage local resources and stimulate the local economy

Kasese Municipal Council has established the Local Economic Development and Investments Committee (LEDIC), an initiative that aims at managing resources and stimulating the local economy to boost the local economic and tax base.

Introduced in the 2018/2019 Financial Year but officially implemented in March 2019, the initiative is one of the programs under the Directorate of Local Administration in the Ministry of Local Government.

 According to the Ministry, the overall goal of the committee is to support Local Governments in the planning and budgeting processes as well as promoting employment and wealth creation through supporting the development of new industrial and business parks to promote skilling of women and youth among other core values.

The committee, which was introduced in Kasese Municipality early this year, was on Wednesday officially unveiled to the public at Virina Gardens in Kasese town during a Public – Private Community Dialogue

The 18 – member committee which comprises representatives from Business community, Civil Society Organizations, Cooperatives and Media is headed by the Town Clerk while the Principal Commercial Officer is the Secretary.

Mr. Godfrey Bwambale, the Kasese Municipal Principal Commercial Officer, who doubles as the Secretary to the committee says they will promote local enterprise development to stimulate economic growth with the urban centre.

Mr. Moses Bajwaha, the Program’s Engagement Coordinator at International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) that is funding the Urban Authorities to implement a 5 –year Sustainable Development Project through Local Governance says that the 18-member committee will advocate for enabling environment for all businesses to thrive.
