Kasese farmers ask government to secure agricultural machinery to help them improve their production

Farmers in Kasese district have appealed to the government to support them acquire agricultural machinery that would help them realize sustainable production and improved yields.

The farmers sounded the appeal today morning during a meeting in which they were interacting with the Minister of State for Rwenzori – Luweero Trainable, Hon. Alice Kaboyo at Uhuru 50 Conference Hall in Kasese town.

Minister Kaboyo was in Kasese to monitor if the funds disbursed to the farmers under the Rwenzori – Luweero Development Plan (RLDP) were causing a positive impact to the beneficiaries’ livelihoods.

The farmers who acknowledged receipt of the funds and their proper utilization, however, highlighted the need for the government to secure machines including tractors to them so that they are enabled to boost their production and sustain their farming practices.

Ms Angela Birungi, the Chairperson for the Women Council in Kasese district noted that much as most people engage in agriculture, their production remains low to limited manpower, adding that it was through the use of mechanized agriculture that the production would improve.

Mrs. Jane Benuza Masereka and Asbas Agaba Kato also appealed for an enhanced funding to the farmer groups in order for them to practice extensive farming.

In her response to the farmers’concerns, Minister Kaboyo pledged to look for one farm tractor to help all the organized farmer groups across the district.
