Kasese district has been selected to host this year’s World Tourism Day celebrations slated for September 27, 2024.

The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has confirmed the development in a letter dated June 10, 2024, addressed to the Chief Administrative Officer Kasese and signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Doreen S. Katusiime (Mrs.).

According to the letter, a copy of which Messiah Radio has seen, the day shall be celebrated under the theme, “Tourism and Peace.”

Mrs. Katusiime also explains that Kasese was selected to host the celebrations following an expression of interest by the district leadership and the recently concluded assessment visit by the officials from the Ministry.

The Permanent Secretary says the event shall be used to showcase the important developments and attractions in the region and highlight the role of peace in the socio-economic development of the region.

Addressing the mammoth crowd of the Rwenzururu subjects who had thronged Rwenzori Square in Kasese town yesterday to welcome Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma to Kasese Municipality to inspect the ongoing development projects being implemented by government, the District Secretary for Social Services, Mr. Girivazio Monday Bwambale also confirmed the development.

He hailed the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities for support accorded to the Tourism Sector in the district and encouraged the local leaders and residents to use the celebrations to tap the opportunities associated with tourism.
