Kasese District Local Government has launched a manhunt for the yet to be identified people who are using the officers’ names to con the members of the public.

The decision to look for the suspects is based on several complaints from the public indicating that very many job applicants have been coned of their money by people who masquerade to be government officials and promise to secure jobs for them.

Recently, two teachers from Bikunya Primary School in Karambi Sub-county were rescued from conmen who had pledged to promote them to the senior positions in the Education Sector.

Mr. Elias Byamungu, the Chief Administrative Officer says he has noted with concern that a number of people who are coning applicants of their money camouflage to be officers attached to his office.

According to him a general inquiries file has been opened at police specifically to make a follow-up on the telephone numbers that the conmen use to defraud the members of the public.

On his part, the District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi pledges that the fight against corruption would be extended in the Civil Service.

Mr. Muhindi, however, blames the members of the public for allegedly concealing information but only speak out when they have already been coned of their money.
