Kasese District Local Government has officially launched the construction works of a rehabilitation centre for Gender Based Violence (GBV) victims.
The project worth shillings 360 million was launched yesterday and handed to Brooks Engineering Works Limited.
Funded by the United Nations Development Programme, the contract is expected to last for 90 days.
Officiating at the Groundbreaking ceremony, Ms Justine Muhindo Mutabazi, the Kasese Assistant RDC in-charge of Kasese Municipality, who appreciated the project, asked the contractor to do quality work in order to have value for money.
Mr. Grivazio Monday Bwambale, the Kasese District Vice Chairperson hailed the funders before using the platform to urge the leaders to stand firm and gang up against Gender Based Violence that he said is among the factors affecting development in families.
Rev. Betty Mbambu Mweru, the Mothers’ Union Coordinator at South Rwenzori Diocese who delivered a key note address at the event, reported that from research, most suicidal cases in the district were as a result of domestic violence, asking the community members to fight against it.
