Kasese District Local Government has today commissioned and handed over multimillion health projects to the communities in Busongora County North in an attempt to enhance healthcare services in the area.
The projects including Buhuhira Health Centre III and an assortment of medical equipment at Kabatunda and Bwesumbu Health Centre IIIs were officially commissioned by District authorities.
Mr. Eriab Begumya Ntarwete, the Kasese District Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, told the gatherings at three different sites that the renovation of a maternity ward at Kabatunda Health Centre III consumed over shillings 21 million while the equipment consumed over shillings 25 million.
At Bwesumbu Health Centre III, the equipment that was delivered to the health facility was valued at over shillings 92 million while the construction of Buhuhira Health Centre III was valued at over shillings 654 million.
Mr. Begumya explained that government decided to inject all that money in the health sector in a bid to offer free and adequate health services to the needy community.
Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, the Kasese District Chairperson explained that government is in the process of implementing a new policy on health care that will see Health Centre IIs elevated to Health Centre IIIs and increase the number of staff working in those facilities.
He revealed that following the policy, a number of health facilities mostly from the mountainous areas have been submitted to the Health Ministry for elevation.
Mr. Stephen Bagonza, the acting Kasese District Health Officer, noted that government was committed to supporting health facilities in all areas across the district.
Officiating at the function, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner, Lt. Joe Walusimbi, encouraged the health workers to provide adequate services to the community as expected by government, warning health workers against the habit of selling drugs to the population.
