The leadership of Kyarumba Sub-county in Bukonzo County East, Kasese district has called on the health department to investigate the increasing cases of stillbirths in the lower local government.
Stillbirth is when a baby dies in the womb after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Most stillbirths happen before labor, but a small number happen during labor and birth.
The Sub-county Chairperson, Mr. Jackson Baluku Mughuruka says stillbirths have become common especially in Kaghema Parish, appealing to the district health department to intervene and sensitize the community members on how best they can handle the challenge.
Mughuruka sounded the remarks yesterday while speaking during the Sub-county Budget Conference that was held at St. Stephen’s Kabughabugha Church of Uganda.
Mr. Venesio Tsembere, the Sub-county Community Development Officer, also reported that cases of Gender Based Violence were on an increase.
He condemned the local leaders to allegedly interesting themselves in handling defilement cases and in the process end up secretly negotiating with the perpetrators. Tsembere urged the parents to always report such cases to police for technical guidance.
He also reported another challenge of poor means of transport when it comes to transporting sick people, requesting the development partners to allocate an ambulance to the lower local government in an attempt to address the challenge.
Vangirin Nziabake Buseku, the Chairperson for the Women’s League in the sub-county advocated for more female teachers at government grant-aided schools to help in nurturing the young girls.
