The Forum for Democratic Change in Kasese district has petitioned the Office of the District Electoral Commission Registrar objecting the shortlisting of Enid Ninsiima for the position of Sub-county Election Supervisor for Nyamwamba Division.
In a letter dated today and received by on the same date by the Election Assistant, FDC argues that their concerns arise from the fact that the said person in her current roles as a GISO for the Central Division during the mass NIRA registration for National IDs allegedly frustrated most of the youth from the opposition stronghold areas by refusing to sign for them.
The petition signed by the Kasese FDC Chairperson, Mr. Ronald Kabuku, indicates that such a behavior raises serious doubts about her impartiality and ability to conduct free and fair elections.
Subsequently, the FDC party alleges that her selection might be influenced perceived allegiance to the NRM regime which could compromise the integrity of the Electoral Process.
Kabuku suggests to the District Registrar to reconsider Ninsiima’s shortlisting and ensure that the selection process is transparent, fair and based on merit.
Mr. Bonex Kule, a member of FDC in Kasese town, told the press that their objection to the shortlisted candidates who are due to sit for their interviews on Monday next week was based on their known political party affiliations.
However, Mr. Bryans Basisa, the Chairperson for NUP in Kasese told the press that he was not seeing any problem associated with shortlisting civil servants, saying they are also citizens of Uganda.
When contacted on phone about the matter, the Election Assistant, Charles Wefula declined to comment about the matter and referred the press to the Regional Office.
Enid Ninsiima, the accused person told the press to ask the complainants whether it was not constitutional for her to serve the claimed position.
