The Kasese District Chairperson has reiterated his call against corruption, regionalism and existence of ghost workers in the district.
Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi sounded the remarks last evening while addressing the residents of Mahango Sub-county at Kaburara and Nakulabye trading centres respectively where he had gone to account to the community members what government has been able to do for them as well as giving his personal accountability for the time he has been at the helm of the district.
He explained to them that at least shillings 2.6 billion has been recovered from the ghost teachers who had been illegally included on the government payroll in the education sector.
About the issue of regionalism, the District Boss stressed that when he assumed office, he put in a deliberate effort to appoint people from all regions on different committees including the District Executive, Sectorial Committee Chairpersons and Public Service among others.
The District Political head also told the residents that a total of shillings 209 million has so far been disbursed to the four parishes in Mahango Sub-county under the Parish Development Model Programme, urging the beneficiaries to use the funds to uplift their household incomes as envisaged by the President.
He used the same platform to sound a warning to the Parish Chiefs to desist from the practice of soliciting money from the beneficiaries.
He emphasized that government has been able to accomplish a lot of projects in Mahango sub-county, citing them as the upgrade of Mahango road at a tune of shillings 500 million, several gravity flow schemes and Mahango Seed Secondary School among others.
Mr. Julius Wangandamirye, the L. C I Chairperson for Ighanza Village hailed the District Chairperson for his campaign against corruption.
He, however, requested him to consider the construction of staff houses at Ighanza Primary School and a market shelter at Nakulabye trading centre.
Mr. Musa Masereka, a boda –boda rider at Savannah – Mahango Stage, who appreciated the District Boss for highlighting a number of achievements, however, decried the poor state of Kisongora – Kibiri road which he said needs urgent attention.
