The Kasese District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi has called for support geared towards fighting against the spread of HIV/AIDS from the population.
The District Boss made the call today afternoon in his opening remarks during the District Budget Conference that was held at Rwenzori International Hotel in Kasese town.
The Budget Conference was organized under the theme, “Full Monetization of Uganda’s Economy through Commercial Agriculture, Industrialization, Expanding and Broadening Services, Digital Transformation and Marketing Access.”
Mr. Muhindi, who indicated that they were launching the 1st year of the 4th District Development Plan 2025/2026, stressed that they were planning to have the spread of HIV/AIDS eliminated by 2030.
According to him, the virus was on an increase across the district, hence a driver to underdevelopment in the affected households.
He was also worried that HIV/AIDS across the country was taking a lot of government money that is spent on the procurement of drugs given freely to the victims. He indicated that the country spends shillings 1.7 trillion annually for the procurement of drugs and managing HIV cases.
He told the different stakeholders to interest themselves in helping the already affected people so that they break the stigma and appreciate their value to the economy.
Muhindi’s report also highlighted a challenge of population growth rated at 2.4%. This, according to him increases the chances of land fragmentation, resource wastage and infertility of the small pieces of land as they strive to utilize the available resources. ENDS
