The Kasese Grade I Magistrate’s Court sitting on February 11,2026 at Rukoki denied granting bail to Gilbert Mwesige, a resident of Saluti B Cell who is facing two counts of theft and instead further remanded him to Mubuku Government Prison until February 17, 2026.
Court presided over by the Kasese Senior Grade I Magistrate, His Worship Isha Alinda heard that on October 18, 2025 while at Corona Street literally known as Mboghoyabo Road in Nyamwamba Division, Mwesige, a builder who hails from Saluti B Cell in Kanyangeya Ward and others still at large, allegedly stole an Itel phone rated at shillings 30,000 belonging to Oniz Mugisa.
Mwesige is also facing another count of theft where it is alleged that on the same date and location, he stole another phone, Samsung Galaxy A05 black in colour that is rated at shillings 830,000 belonging to Ms. Annet Kabugho.
When asked to take plea on the matters, Mwesige denied the charges and asked court to release him on bail since he was arrested with severe stomach ulcers that he cannot attend to while in prison.
Despite his constitutional right to request for bail, court denied his application because one of his sureties failed to present all the necessary documents and adjourned the hearing to February 17, 2026.
The same court had earlier convicted and sentenced a man in his late 20s to Mubuku Government Prison for 36 months after being found guilty of stealing a mobile phone.
