At least 1,090 people from Kasese district got infected with Tuberculosis in 2024.
The revelation was made today afternoon by the District Tuberculosis and Leprosy Supervisor, Mr. Surgeon Kisomerya while addressing the press in Kasese town.
Mr. Kisomerya mentioned Kasese Municipality, Katwe – Kabatoro Town Council, Kitswamba and Bwesumbu sub-counties as the most affected lower local governments.
He noted that he was scared about the increasing rate at which the people were getting infected with Tuberculosis, adding that men were the most affected category of people.
As part of the efforts to curtail the spread of the infection, Kisomerya stressed that they had written to the Ministry of Health seeking its immediate intervention.
Mr. Yokoramu Bwambale Bakalyaghe, the Senior Clinical Officer at Hima Government Health Center III, who also doubles as the Assistant District Tuberculosis Supervisor, observed the need for the people to embark on early treatment and preventive measures in order to avoid the disease from spreading further.
However, Ms Roset Musoki, a Technical Person on Tuberculosis Matters from Baylor Uganda, revealed that following the trend of the infection, they were forced to partner with the district health department purposely to carry out Community Mobile Tuberculosis Clinic campaigns aimed at testing and treating people with the infection.
