Kasanzi primary school in Bugoye sub-county grapples with a challenge of limited latrine stances

Kasanzi Primary School in Bugoye sub county, Busongora County North in Kasese district is grappling with a challenge of lack of enough latrine stances leading to poor sanitation.

The government grant –aided institution of learning only has three temporary stances that are used by all the 569 pupils and 09 teachers.

Ms Olive Kunihira, a Head teacher at the said primary school made the revelation yesterday while addressing the District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi who was at the institution to attend a General Parents’ Meeting. She noted that due to lack of enough latrine stances, they sometimes collide with the pupils while answering the nature’s call.

The Head teacher also reported that the pupils at the study from dilapidated structures full of dust, hence a health threat. .

Mr. Nason Kamalha, the Bugoye Sub-county Secretary for Social Services told the meeting that other schools in the lower local government are also experiencing similar challenges.  

Faustino Masereka, the Sub-county Councilor representing Kibirizi Parish revealed that most schools are lacking access to safe and clean drinking water.

Responding to the concerns, Mr. Muhindi assured them of government’s commitment towards solving some challenges being faced in school.

He, however, challenged the parents to embrace the idea of holding donor conferences as one of the means of raising funds to solve a few challenges including renovation of classrooms and latrines.
