Karusandara residents call for reconstruction of Nkoko Bridge

BY JOEL KAGUTA

Residents of Karusandara Sub-county, Busongora County South in Kasese district have asked government to expedite the process of fixing Nkoko Bridge that is at the verge of breaking.

A month ago, the bridge that connects Nyakakindo Cell in Hima Town Council to Nyabubale village in Karusandara was partly destroyed by floods from River Mubuku.

At the moment only motorcycles risk to cross the said bridge and vehicles stop at either sides of the bridge.

John Mwesigye, a resident of Nyabubale explains as farmers, they have been affected by the destruction of the bridge because they have been made ineligible to transport their agricultural produce to the market centres.

According to him, two weeks ago, a motorcycle carrying three occupants including the rider fell into the water because they didn’t know the fate of the bridge.

Yesterday, Kasese District Road Committee chaired by the Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament, Ferigo Kambale held a meeting at the District headquarters aimed at compiling a report about the current situation of infrastructure across the district.

The team including the District Chairperson, Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi and the District Engineer, David Rujumba and officials from UNRA visited Nkoko Bridge and assured the residents that the issue would be addressed.

Mr. Muhindi revealed that more than 10 bridges across the district were in a sorry state, a reason why the Roads Committee would go to the line Ministry next week to forge a way forward.
