Residents of Kahendero Fish Landing site, Muhokya Town Council in Kasese district have appealed to government to economically empower them in an attempt to come out of the biting poverty levels in the area.
The residents, through Mr. Abdullah Sengoba, the area Councilor to Muhokya Town Council, who also doubles as the Town Council Vice Chairperson, sounded the appeal on Monday while speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview.
Mr. Sengoba stressed that it would be a good idea for government to treat the fish mongers equally the way it treats other people who are seriously involved in the agricultural sector.
He therefore called upon the government to give them special grants so that they lift their fishing activities.
Mr. Elly Asiimwe, the Local Council II Chairperson for Kahendero Ward, urged the government to also support the associations of widows in the area through skilling and economically empowering them.
Boaz Ngonzi, one of the fishmongers at Kahendero Fish Landing site requested government to also include them in its programs so that they lift their standards of living.
