The Kasese District Health Department has launched a program of inspecting 142 health centres and villages across the district with an aim of empowering community leaders with the basic knowledge on how to manage the general sanitation in and around health facilities and at their respective homes.
The program was officially launched today morning by the Assistant District Health Officer in-charge of Environmental Health, Mr. Stephen Bagonza at Kitswamba Health Centre III in Kitswamba Town Council, Busongora County North.
During the launch, Bagonza observed that there was need for the people to construct kitchens with chimneys to allow smoke escape the rooms without exposing the users to some smoke related diseases including lunch cancer.
He stressed that good sanitation around homes and health facilities would help to curtail the spread of diseases hence reducing the inflow of patients in hospitals.
Bagonza revealed that he was shocked when he found out that some community members had not yet taken their children to vaccination against malaria despite the government efforts towards providing the vaccines.
Mr. Bright Monday, the Chairperson for the Management Committee at Kitswamba Health Centre III attributed the low turn-up of patients at the health facility to the elevation of other facilities including Kirabaho in the neighbourhood.
He, however, called for frequent visits to the facility by the Office of the District Health Officer.
