Government opens an inquiry desk for complaints on Bwenanule piece of land in Kasese

TheGovernment of Uganda has opened an inquiry desk at its alleged 200 acres of land in Bwenanule-Kinyabakazi Cell, Muhokya Town Council in Busongora County South, Kasese District with a call on all people who are affected by the development to come and officially present their complaints for redress.

On Friday last week, the Office of the Prime Minister revealed that it was ready to resettle the 163 households living in Muhokya camp on its said land which was purchased at a tune of shillings one and a half billion. 

Dr. Davis Mwenyi, the Commissioner for Disaster and Preparedness in the Office of the Prime Minister, said they had consulted the Office of the IGG and the Ministry of Lands which confirmed to them that the said piece of land was bought from a genuine owner.  

He, however, noted that they would open up an inquiry desk to welcome all people with complaints for a peaceful redress. The inquiry desk was officially opened today.

The Kasese Resident District Commissioner, Lt. Joe Walusimbi who led the team from the Office of the Prime Minister to the said piece of land told the media after establishing the inquiry desk that they didn’t receive any person presenting a complaint today.

He revealed that they would try two more times to wait for the residents’ complaints before proceeding to the next step of preparing the land for settlement.

Mr. Zepher Mubingwa, the Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Busongora County, asked the residents to observe peace and unity as they embark on carrying the exercise. He quickly warned them against committing crimes through intimidating other people during the process, arguing that such an act is punishable by law.

However, the area Local Council I Chairperson, Mr. Lawrence Bwambale in an interview with the press maintained that he has never signed on any of the sale agreements when government allegedly bought the said piece of land from the one claiming its ownership.
