Government identifies a potential investor to revamp Katwe Salt Processing Factory

Government has identified a potential investor to revamp Katwe Salt Processing Factory in Katwe –K’abatooro Town Council, Busongora County South in Kasese district.

The revelation was made today by the Kasese District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi while addressing a crowd of people that had turned up at Kyarukara A cell in Katwe- K’abatooro to welcome the Rwenzururu King, Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma who had paid a visit to his subjects in Bukangama – Buthale Chiefdom.

Mr. Muhindi noted that Salt Plus has been selected from among many companies that had shown their interests to revamp Katwe Salt Processing Factory, adding that it has even committed itself to functionalize the factory soon.

The District Boss was happy that once the factory becomes functional, it would employ many people across the district as well as generating revenue to the local government.

In his remarks, the Speaker for Katwe- K’abatooro Town Council, Mr. Obaldo Kachanchu who represented the Town Council Chairperson, Mr. John Bosco Kananura reported to the Omusinga that the area is endowed with valuable natural resources that lead to the promotion of tourism and other economic activities.

He mentioned a number of lakes including Munyanyange, Edward, Katwe Salt Lake and the Queen Elizabeth National Park that needed to be utilized fully so as to improve the economy.

However, the Secretary for Works and Technical Services at Katwe – K’abatooro Town Council, Mr. Pawel Birungi told the press that some tourism activities in the area have been negatively affected by the recent attack on foreign tourists by suspected ADF rebels in the Queen Elizabeth National Park.
