Government grant-aided school in Kasese fails to register primary seven candidates

BY JOACKIM KULE

Nyakanengo Primary School in Bwesumbu Sub-county, Busongora County North in Kasese district has not registered any candidate to sit for this year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (P.L.E).

The school which is a government grant-aided institution did not meet the required number of pupils to register for P.L.E as guided by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

Mr. Boniface Drum, a teacher at the school told Messiah Radio in an exclusive interview that at the beginning of first term, they enrolled only three pupils in the candidate class and they later disappeared until now.

He attributed the challenge to the high rate of early marriages and teenage pregnancies among the young girls in the area.

However, he is hopeful that the 36 pupils who are currently in primary six would help to reinstate the primary seven class next year.

Currently, the institution has 148 pupils in primary one, 111 pupils in primary two, 110 in primary three, 48 in primary four, 44 in primary five and 36 in primary six.
