A 60- year-old former Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Royal Guard who went into hiding during the 2016 raid on the Kingdom’s Palace by joint security forces has come out and officially surrendered himself to the government.
Joseph Kabalhami who claims was the commander of all the Royal Guards in the Greater Lake Katwe Sub-county, officially surrendered himself last evening at his home in Kalhamya village, Kahokya Sub-county in Kasese district and was welcomed by Mr. Zepher Mubingwa, the Deputy RDC in-charge of Busongora County.
Mr. Kabalhami explained that on November 27, 2016, he exiled himself together with 79 former female Royal Guards. The group sought refuge from their relatives’ homes for eight years.
He stressed that all the 80 people have come back to their respective homes and reunited with their families. He thus requested the Government of Uganda to accord them a warm welcome as well as rehabilitating them.
He used the same podium to applaud the people who stood and collaborated with them during their time in exile by providing some basic necessities to them.
Subsequently, Mr. Mubingwa welcomed Mr. Kabalhami and directed the GISO and Sub-county NRM Chairperson to profile all the people that he claimed to have come with from exile so that they are taken to the RDC’s office for guidance.
