Former Kasese FDC boss calls for mass sensitization about the use of electricity

BY JOACKIM KULE

Mr. Saulo Maate, the former Kasese District FDC Chairperson and party Commissioner for the Rwenzori sub-region has called on some electricity companies to carry out public sensitization campaigns on how the people should prevent themselves against the power related dangers.

His call follows last evening’s incident in which Musa Zita, a resident of Buzibwera village in Maliba Sub-county was electrocuted to death as he was pruning some tree branches near a power line in his compound.

While addressing the press in Kasese town, Maate argued that the electricity companies should double their efforts and sensitize the masses about the dangers and benefits associated with the use of electricity in their respective areas.

According to him, cases of electrocution are primarily caused by the alleged companies’ failure to give safety precautions and guidance to the population.

Maate also observed need for the electricity companies to compensate people whose pieces of land are accommodation the electric poles.

He, however, advised the people whose houses are connected with power to use it productively through establishing some businesses that use power to generate income.

Some residents don’t want to learn, they are big headed even when they are given advice. They oppose the technicians about electricity. I am told the deceased displayed “rugezigezi” when the line was being laid. They wanted to cut the said tree but he refused!!
