Mr. Saul Matte the former FDC Kasese district chairperson has applauded the Supreme Court for its land mark ruling barring military courts from trying civilians.
On Friday, the highest court of the land upheld the decision of the constitutional court which had ruled that the military courts do not have the jurisdiction to try civilians. The Supreme Court then directed that all files involving civilians be transferred to civilian courts for review and subsequent trial.
In the aftermath of the ruling, President Museveni has written a bitter commentary castigating the courts for making what he called a wrong decision.
Now, Maathe says while the decision of the Supreme Court is a manifestation of the rule of law, he has expressed his displeasure with the comments of the president which he claimed undermine rule of law and constitutionalism.
He has appealed to President Museveni to respect the principle of separation of powers between the executive, judiciary and the legislature.
