Despite registering a speedy growth and development, Kasese Municipality is still grappling with many challenges as far as urbanization is concerned.
Mr. Wilfred Baluku Pokopoko, the Kasese Municipal Senior Planner says the urban centre faces many challenges that do not only affect the leadership that also the residents.
According to him, the urban centre periodically experiences flooding of River Nyamwamba, land grabbing, open dumping of garbage, noisy pollution by happening places and the cost of maintaining the roads constructed under the USMID programme among others.
He sounded the remarks yesterday while giving a report to the current Executive Committee members of the Uganda National Urban Forum led by its President, Mr. Derek Muhwezi.
In his response, Mr. Muhwezi, pledged to forward the challenges to the relevant ministries. He, however, advised the Municipal leaders to partner with other urban centres within and outside the country so that they copy from them how they manage garbage.
He also urged the leadership of Kasese Municipality and other stakeholders to jealously guard and own the infrastructures including the USMID roads and Street Lights among others.
Mr. Chance Kahindo, the Municipality Mayor advocated for more USMID roads to cater for the peri-urban areas of Kihara, Kemihoko and Kirembe among others.
