FDC joins calls for Besigye’s release

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has expressed concern over the deteriorating health of its founding president, Dr. Kizza Besigye, while he is in prison.

The party is demanding his immediate release so that he can receive proper medical attention.

The press understands that Besigye was taken to a private clinic in Bugoloobi yesterday under heavy security.

FDC Deputy Publicity Secretary, Warid Lubega told the media at the party’s headquarters today that it is unacceptable to keep Besigye in prison following the Supreme Court ruling that outlawed the trial of civilians in military courts.

Lubega warned that the recent death of former Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya, who was allegedly denied timely medical care, should serve as a reminder of the potential consequences of government actions.

And in Kasese district, concerned political leaders have also appealed to the government to release Dr Kiiza Besigye so that he can receive proper medication.

In a social media massage posted on her WhatsApp page by the Kasese District Woman MP, Hon. Florence Kabugho, the legislator condemns the manner in which government is handling Dr. Kiiza Besigye and other political prisoners despite having health complications.

Hon. Kabugho says it should be a concern of every leader to demand for Dr. Kiiza’s release.

Mr. Saulo Maate, the former Kasese FDC Chairpersons calls for the intervention of the Inter-religious Council of Uganda to advocate for the rights of Dr. Kiiza Besigye.

Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Kasese District FDC Chairperson who quotes the Biblical Book of Isaiah 10:1-4, says with the utmost urgency and concern, he is compelled to addressing the escalating situation surrounding Dr. Besigye’s detention. He also expresses disappointment regarding Dr. Besigye’s welfare and implications of his continued imprisonment.

Kabuku adds that it is ironic that the very person who has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of Ugandans is being held captive.

Mr. Bryans Basisa, the Kasese District NUP Chairperson told the media that they have decided to make a public outcry through various platforms sp that Besigye is released unconditionally.

According to him, as human rights defenders, they are tired of watching fellow citizens being tried in the court martial and held in detention centres illegally.
