Farmers in Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality receive spray pumps

BY JOACKIM KULE

The leadership of Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality has donated spray pumps to the eleven farmer groups in the area in a bid to help them fight against the challenge of pests and diseases that attack some crops.

Mr. Pimako Kasereka, the Division Chairperson says they thought it wise to donate spray pumps to the farmers in order to boost food production in his area of jurisdiction.

Mr. Kasereka, who was speaking during the handover ceremony of the pumps to the beneficiary groups at the Division Headquarters today, revealed that the lower local government that used to be a food basket for Kasese district has been invaded by pests and diseases hence affecting crop production.

He called for proper utilization of the donated pumps so that the purpose for which they have been donated to them is realized.

In his remarks, the Kasese Municipal Agricultural Extension Worker, Mr. Asanairi Muhindo Bukanywa, observed need for the farmers to intensify their agricultural activities as a means of improving their livelihoods.

He, however, cautioned them against practicing a free-range system of rearing animals, arguing that they destroy the planted trees that are meant to beautify the town.

Some of the beneficiary farmers hailed the Division leadership for being visionary and indentifying their needs as far as food production is concerned.  They, however, requested their leaders to also support them with pesticides so that the pests are completely fought against.
