Babies and Mother Alive (BAMA), a Nongovernmental Organization operating from the Rwenzori Sub-region has initiated a project that is aimed at providing free transport to the expectant mothers in some 12 selected sub-counties in Kasese district.
Codenamed” Mama Rescue Project” the project will basically offer free transport to the mothers who are seeking delivery services from 13 selected public health facilities.
Mr. John Bosco Ruka, the Project Manager told Messiah Radio today that they had selected the lower local governments of Mpondwe –Lhubiriha, Hima, Karusandara, Mahango and Muhokya among others to pilot the project.
According him, expectant mothers will always be picked from their homes and taken to health facilities of their preferences.
Mr. Nathan Muthabali, the Rukoki Sub-county Speaker applauded the organization for the offer, stressing that the expectant mothers had been suffering with the lack of transport to the health facilities to deliver.
He, however, observed the need for the establishment of health facilities in the hard to reach areas across the district.
He commended the government of Uganda for allowing development partners directly reach the communities to enhance service delivery.
