Ex- Chiefs in Kasese district have called for an urgent intervention in their resolved issues.
The 216 Ex-Chiefs who claim that they served Kasese District Local Government since May 01, 1980, yesterday told the press in Kasese town that despite the government’s efforts to maintain peace and security in handling their issues and listening to them, a deliberate action needs to be done as far as solving the challenge of delayed payments of their retirement benefits as requested by the Ministry of Public Service in a letter dated September 18, 2023.
Mr. Yonasani Kamabu, the Coordinator of the Ex-Chiefs in Kasese says he is only disappointed that after being given appointment letters, they have never been paid their money.
The 88 – year – old man, appreciates government for positively recognizing their efforts. He however, advises the district leadership to legalize their employment status so that they get their retirement benefits.
Mr. Ben Kirere, a son to an Ex-Chief says they are peacefully requesting government to devise means of responding to the plight of the elders.
Dr. Moses Kibalirwandi, another son to the Ex- Chief says they are sometimes disappointed with the leaders who address the mourners and inform them that the district has got the money to pay the Ex-Chiefs but in vain.
Responding to the Ex-Chiefs concerns, the Kasese District Deputy RDC in-charge of Bukonzo County, Lt. Maate Magwara told the press in a telephone interview that he was aware about their issues but didn’t divulge the details.
