Despite being displaced by the landslides and floods, people encamped at some temporarily established camps in Kyondo sub-county, Kasese district have been encouraged to focus much on the health and sanitation around their places of refuge.

Last month, Kasese district experienced heavy rains that caused landslides and floods which also led to displacement of more than 1000 people and destruction of both cash and foods crops.

Yesterday, a delegation from the Rwenzori Organization for Children living under Difficult Circumstances led by its Executive Director, Ms Merida Nziabake Nyamutiba, visited the camp at St. John’s Bughungu Church of Uganda and donated 1400 kilograms of cassava flour to the 270 households at the said camp.

However, Ms Nyamutiba challenged the victims to be mindful of the health and sanitation around the camp in an attempt to prevent diseases associated with poor health from attacking them.

She also encouraged them to use the soap that some organizations have been able to donate to them to promote personal hygiene.

She used the same platform to ask the encamped persons to keep in prayer so that God looks for more ways of helping them come out of the challenging situations.

Ms Rodah Biira, a health worker attached to Kaghorwe Health Centre III, who is also a member of Rwenzori Organization for Children living under Difficult Circumstances, also emphasized the need for the victims to among other things mind much at their health while in the camp.

The Camp Chairperson, Mr. Robert Masereka commended Rwenzori Organization for Children living under Difficult Circumstances for the relief items and appealed to other organizations to come to their rescue through donating food and other materials to them.

Some of the beneficiaries could not hide their excitement for the goods received.
