The Police in Kasese have retrieved a dead body of a yet unknown child from the River Nyamwamba in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality.
The body was discovered today morning at around 9am by a section of children who were fetching water from the river.
According to the Rwenzori East Regional Police Community Liaisons Officer, SP Luka Mbusa, after observing a dead body floating on the water, the children rushed to the KIhara Road cell Vice Chairperson, Mr. Benson Muhindo and narrated the ordeal to him who immediately reported the issue to police.
He also says the retrieved body is suspected to have spent some weeks while in the water since it had started rotting.
He has since warned the members of public against the practice of crossing flooded waters and allowing children to fetch water from flowing rivers.
The acting Regional Police Mouthpiece also appeals to the residents to embrace the idea of moving with identification documents for easy identification in case of any difficulties along the way.
By press time, the retrieved body had been transported to Kasese Municipal Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination as they wait for the relatives to claim it and take it for a decent burial.
