Several Nongovernmental and Civil Society Organizations in Kasese district today afternoon converged at the district boardroom in Rukoki for a dialogue aimed at rising action points on advocating for the sustainable solutions to the disasters.
The dialogue, which was organized by the Alliance for Children and Youth – Uganda, attracted a number of organizations including Red Cross, Foundation for Urban and Rural Advancement (FURA), Alliance for Community Health Education (AFCHE), District top administrators and the Media among others.
Jovia Kabugho, the Executive Director at Alliance for Children and Youth – Uganda reported that once all stakeholders come together and actively engage the community members on how to address the matter, a positive impact would be caused in the community.
Kabugho asked the organizations to always incorporate climate change mitigation messages into their programs especially when they are implementing projects in different parts of the district and the country at large.
At the meeting, some of the attendees including Ronald Kanyerezi, the Kasese Branch Manager for the Red Cross, said there was need to train civil servants especially Community Development Officers on the mitigation control measures so that they pass on the message to the community members.
Willaim Capacity, the Kasese District Community Development Officer, called upon the community members to embrace the modern methods of farming as an alternative way of addressing the challenge.
In his closing remarks, the Kasese District Principal Assistant Secretary, Mustafa Kikusa, who represented the Chief Administrative Officer, observed the need for the community members to address the root causes of disasters especially human activities.
