BY JOACKIM KULE

Residents of Bwera Sub-county, Bukonzo County West in Kasese District have accused the Health workers at Nyakimasa Health Centre III for the alleged poor service delivery resulting from absenteeism and late coming.

The residents sounded the remarks yesterday while addressing the area Resident District Commissioner during a community sensitization meeting about the importance of health services to them. The meeting was held in the premises of the health facility.

Mrs. Kevin Tenge, a resident argued that health workers at the facility do not report on duty daily due to the alleged lack of staff quarters, something that forces the patients to make phone calls seeking medical advice.

Sowedi Mbusa, a 58 -year -old resident in the area explained that the whole health facility is always locked during weekends yet it is at the level of a health centre III.

Ms. Harriet Birungi, a mid-wife at the facility, however, explained that despite the reported challenges, most patients especially the expectant mothers always delay at their respective homes and remember to come to the facility when it is too late and beyond their control.

Mr. Uriah Mugisa, the facility’s in-charge refuted the claims saying the health centre was fully operational.

According to him, they do receive 750 patients seeking outpatient services on a monthly basis.

IP Swaib Kasango, the Bwera Division Community Liaisons Officer cautioned the health workers against misusing duty in pretense of not having staff quarters, advising them to rent rooms at the nearby trading centres for the purpose of serving the population.

The Kasese Deputy RDC, Lt. Maate Magwara directed the in-charge to make sure that the makes a Duty Rota for all staff and ensure that the facility is always open during day and night hours.
