Joneni Bwambale, a resident of Busongora County North in Kasese district has filed a complaint to the Uganda Human Rights Commission in Kampala against the Attorney of Uganda and Lt. (Rtd) Joe Walusimbi accusing them of allegedly violating the rights of the land victims encamped at the RDC’s offices in Kasese town.

In the evening of August 19, the Kasese District Security Committee issued a directive to the camp occupants to vacate the place, arguing that they had received complaints from the Kasese Municipal authorities about the alleged poor sanitation and security threats caused by their presence in the area.

Lt. Joe Walusimbi, the Kasese RDC who heads the Security Committee immediately ordered the police to take charge of the camp and ensure that the occupants leave.

The order also indicated that the camp occupants who had moved outside should not be allowed to enter but be blocked so that they go to their respective homes.

Today morning, Bwambale filed a complaint to the Uganda Human Rights Commission, arguing that there have been human rights violations by the agents of the respondents who include the Attorney General of Uganda and Lt. (Rtd) Joe Walusimbi, the Kasese RDC but nothing has so far been done.

Bwambale also argues that for the last three months hundreds of victims of unlawful and forced evictions from all corners of the district peacefully assembled at the courtyard of the RDC located at Kasese Municipality Offices to demand government to address their grievances.

Speaking to Messiah Radio this evening on phone, Bwambale confirmed his submission, saying he was concerned about the rights of the people who have allegedly been denied access to food and medication.
