The Busongora County North NUP parliamentary candidate, Joneni Bwambale Bamwenda has revealed that if elected in the forthcoming elections, he would as the government to reduce the salaries given to legislators and instead increase the funds meant for social services.

Bamwenda argues that the salaries given to the Members of Parliament are huge compared to the workload that they have.

He sounded the remarks today while addressing the press in Kasese town. Bamwenda noted that in addition to the huge sums of money that the legislators get, 200 million shillings that they are given for procuring vehicles and buying houses in Kampala are a waste of the tax payers’ money.

According to him, if given shillings 200 million, he would deduct shillings 50 million and create an emergency fund for the widows, 50 million shillings for elderly, shillings 50 million for X-Royal Guards and their orphans and shillings 50 million for boda-boda riders and casual labourers who are still in their youthful age so that they can improve their livelihoods.

Bamwenda also revealed that he would ask the government to improve the quality of education in public schools by emphasizing performance and motivation through enhancing the teachers’ salaries in those schools.

He also pledged to handle the issue of land conflicts, water scarcity, healthcare improvement and infrastructural development.
