Mr. Moses Mugisa, the Town Clerk for Mpondwe- Lhubiriha Town Council in Kasese district has revealed that he is happy with the way business is booming at the border seven months after the fish market was shifted to the area.
Mr. Mugisa says since the reinstatement of the fish market which had been shifted to the DRC side during the Covid-19 pandemic, business activities are going on well and the traders are registering success.
According to him, they are currently receiving more than 20 trucks of fish which are offloaded from the area hence providing employment opportunities to the youth who had become redundant for more than three years after the after the market was shifted to the DRC.
Mugisa is also optimistic that the foreigners from Tanzania and other parts of the world are enjoying the environment in the area.
He reveals that the area no longer registers poor garbage disposal after council resolved to privatize its collection from households at a subsidized cost.
The State Minster for ICT and National Guidance, Mr. Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime who was officiating at the belated 44 Tarehe Sita celebrations over the weekend at Mpondwe Moslem Primary School, encouraged the members of the public to embrace government’s pro-people programs that are initiated to alleviate poverty from their homes.
Kabbyanga noted that the people should also get involved in piggery, goat and poultry keeping whose products are highly demanded on an international market.
