BY MATHIUS KAHUNGU

The South Rwenzori Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev Nason Baluku has appealed to government to consider including the church in implementing some of her developmental programs.

Bishop Nason Baluku sounded the appeal today afternoon in his remarks during the 41st South Rwenzori Diocesan Anniversary that was celebrated at St Paul’s Cathedral in Kasese Town.

South Rwenzori Diocese was carved from Ruwenzori Diocese on 26th August, 1984 with one archdeaconry but has since developed. Currently, the fast-growing diocese has 14 archdeaconries, 73 parishes and 6,000 congregations.

In his communication, the prelate noted that the growth of the Diocese has not only focused on spiritual growth but also engaged in strategic partnerships aimed at poverty alleviation and enhancing livelihoods within the community.

He used the same podium to ask Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, the minister of state for Trade, Industries and Cooperatives, who was the chief guest at the function, to remind the president to fulfill his pledges to the diocese.

Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, the Kasese District Chairperson described the church as long-time development partner whose contribution cannot be understated.

Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi applauded the diocese for her community development programs. He courted the clergy to incorporate transformative messages among farmers who make the bulk of believers.

The junior trade minister also cautioned farmers and traders who compromise the quality of cash crops especially cocoa and coffee; a practice which he said has its attendant effects on the prices of the said crops.

He asked the people to embrace and utilize government programs and use the prevailing peace to create wealth and have their livelihoods improve. ENDS
