The Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku has tasked the church leaders, Christians and entire community members to find out the reasons why St. Phillip’s Isango Church of Uganda in Ikobero Parish, Kitholhu Archdeaconry was still limping.
Established in 1924 and officially inaugurated on November 12, 2012 by retired Bishop Jackson Thembo Nzerebende, St. Phillip’s Isango Church of Uganda yesterday celebrated her 100 years of existence (Century).
The celebrations and thanksgiving service also involved confirming 38 Christians into the Anglican faith.
According to the Church report read to the Bishop by Mr. Isaac Katusabe, the Health of Laity, the church has mothered many other churches including Kisebere, Ikobero and Kitholhu that have since been elevated to Parishes.
It was upon this background that Bishop Baluku tasked the leaders and Christians to ascertain the reasons why the oldest church was still limping.
He stressed that it was shameful for such a church that has produced important people including priests like Rev. Prof. Edson Kalengyo and Rev. Agnes Tsibuhirwa Sekande to remain at a lower level.
Earlier in his preaching, the prelate encouraged the congregation to constantly pray in order to receive what they request for from God as scripted in the Biblical Book of Mathew 15: 21 -28.
The Man of God, who also quoted the Biblical Book of Romans 12: 2, also reminded the Christians not be conformed to the patterns of the world, observing the need for them to be transformed through renewing their minds.
Mr. Milton Kule Mbwarara, the L. C III Chairperson for Kithoma – Kanyatsi Town Council where St. Phillip’s Isango Church of Uganda is located called for transformation among the Christians in an attempt to have the church develop.
However, Rev. William Kyabanawandi, the Vicar at St. John’s Nyakabingo Church of Uganda Parish in Mahango Archdeaconry who was among the first Lay readers to serve at St. Phillip’s Church of Uganda said they had not yet met all the requirements for a Parish status.
But speaker after speaker advocated that the church being the oldest in South Rwenzori Diocese should be elevated to a Parish Status.
