Authorities in Karusandara Sub-county, Busongora County South in Kasese district has revealed that the lower local government is experiencing sanitation challenges emanating from the running water and floods that have destroyed people’s latrines in the area.
According to the local leadership, the current rains have seen floods from Rivers Mubuku, Sebwe and Nkoko deposit dirt, debris and other wastes into some communities, subsequently affecting people’s latrines and buildings.
Mr. Darausi Nzitatira, the Sub county Vice Chairperson says that since September this year, they have continued registering cases related to destruction of latrines hence posing a health threat in the sub-county.
Mr. Nzitatira also stresses that the people are likely to experience food shortage since their crop gardens have too been destroyed by the same floods.
He says at least 10 households in the lower local government have also been displaced following the damage inflicted on their houses by the devastating floods and are currently encamped at Kikoga Church of Uganda in the area.
Similarly, the Mubuku Town Council Chairperson, Mr. Joseph Nyamutale says the running waters have too destroyed infrastructure in his lower local government.
He explains that the roads are now impassable, making it hard to transport food crops to the market centers.
