Former Kasese District FDC Chairperson, Mr. Saulo Maate says his not happy with the Councilors and Speaker for their alleged failure to discuss a probe committee’s report on corruption allegations in the district.
Maate, who argues that after listening to the Chief Administrative Officer’s remarks during a council sitting yesterday at Kasese Youth Polytechnic indicating that instead of discussing the report and allowing the accused persons to defend themselves he had written to the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry for Local Government seeking technical guidance, the councilors should have walked out of the session.
The CAO who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Eriab Begumya Ntarwete is quoted having said that after receiving the probe report, they had to write to the Solicitor General for his technical guidance about the matter.
However, Maate argues that issues of corruption affect the people that the councilors represent in the district council and therefore should be handled with the urgency that they deserve.
The outspoken Maate also lashes at the District Speaker for his alleged failure to guide council on the next course of action in his wisdom, an indication that he did not understand the issue.
He now wants the Speaker to apologize to the residents, saying he betrayed them because they were eagerly waiting for the council’s decision over corruption allegations in the district.
But during the council session, the Speaker, Mr. Johnson Mayora was heard asking the CAO what was wrong for him to discipline his technical staff who were accused in the report and order police to arrest some members of the public who were too mentioned in the same report.
