Last month, FDC members subscribing to the Katonga faction during their conference resolved to first dissolve the party and then form a new one codenamed “People’s Front for Freedom.”

Speaking to the press shortly after a constituency conference that was held over the weekend at Hard Rock Gardens in Nyabugando Ward, Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Town Council, Mr. Edson Bumenze, one of the FDC Senor Cadres in Bukonzo County West, appealed to the party supporters not to go by the idea of forming a new political party but remain committed to the original party.

According to him, such divisions should be avoided if the party is to win the 2026 General Elections.
