The need to sustain peace in the forthcoming 2026 General Elections has forced Creations Forum Afrika (CAF), a Nongovernmental Organization based in the Rwenzori Sub-region to implement a new project dubbed “Ugandans for Peace Activity.

The three- year project also aims at sensitizing the communities about the need to live peacefully prior, during and after elections. The said project will be implemented in the districts of Kasese, Bunyangabu, Ntoroko and Bundibugyo.

While addressing the different stakeholders yesterday at Kasese District Council hall in Rukooki, Mr. Sam Kalamiah, the Programs Manager at CAF explained that the project’s goal was to prevent, mitigate and respond to political violence in order to build social cohesion and promote peace in the country.

According to him, the project would focus on seeing potential abilities beyond ethnic boundaries, adding that people ought to live in peace regardless of their tribes.

Rev. Ezra Mukonzo Yongeza, the Coordinator for the Inter-religious Council of Uganda in-charge of Rwenzori Sub-region, observed need for the project implementers to also consider the political leaders and other aspirants, adding that such categories of people incite violence during campaigns.

Ms Jolly Kateeba Masika , the Kasese District Deputy Speaker called for Gender Equality in the implementation of the project.

According to her, women are always sidelined and underrated when it comes to holding political positions.

Mr. Mustafa Kikusa, the Principal Assistant Secretary in the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, commended Creations Forum Afrika for coming up with such a peace advocacy strategy during the volatile Election period.

In his remarks, the Kasese Deputy Resident Commissioner in-charge of Busongora County, Mr. Zepher Mubingwa appealed to Creations Forum Afrika to consider engaging police during the project implementation period.

This, according to him would help to improve community policing for effective compliance.
