Widows in Bukonzo County, Kasese district under their umbrella organization “Bukonzo County Widows’ Association” have appealed to equip them with vocational skills as one way of enhancing their livelihoods.

They sounded the appeal yesterday during the celebrations to mark the International Widows’ Day, a function that was held at Mpondwe Primary School in Mpondwe –Lhubiriha Town Council.

Ms Jeneva Kooli, the Group’s Chairperson reported that Widows go through a lot of financial challenges, a reason why government should think of equipping them with vocational skills for self reliance.

Ms Evanisa Kabanyoro, a resident of Nyakatonzi who is also a member of the association of over 1,300 widows, explained that taking care of the orphans as a single mother needs a lot of financial support in terms of paying school fees and providing food among others to them.

Mrs. Fatuma Kamama Kathembo, the Kasese District Woman Parliamentary hopeful on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket who was the Chief Guest at the celebrations donated three tailoring machines to them.

According to her, the tailoring machines will help them establish a project that would support the skilling programme of the members as well as acting as a source of income.
