The Kasese District Interfaith Committee in partnership with Adventist Development and Relief Agency Uganda has launched phase II of the project dubbed “Fighting against Gender Based Violence.”
The six- month project which was launched yesterday will be implemented in church founded schools; churches as well as carrying community dialogues in some densely populated areas across Kasese district.
Addressing the press shortly after the launch at their offices in Kasese town, the Inter-faith Committee Chairperson, Rt. Rev. Jackson Thembo Nzerebende said the project is aimed at sensitizing the masses about the dangers and causes of domestic violence in families.
Bishop Nzerebende subsequently mentioned the inequalities in families as the major causes of domestic violence and asked the Nongovernmental Organizations, teachers and local leaders and other relevant stakeholders to have respect for one another in a bid to end the acts of violence.
Mr. Moses Thabugha, the Bishop of the Born Again Faith in Kasese said the project would help them to fight bad behaviors including drug abuse among the youth.
Mr. Swaleh Musenene, the Treasurer to the Committee said the decided to implement the project in schools following reports indicating that 65% of the learners are being sexually harassed by the teachers on condition of giving them marks.
